Sly Cooper and Thievius Raccoons - PlayStation 2

I've been wanting a old-school style platform game for my PlayStation 2 for quite some time. Many developers have tried to bring platformers to the console but most of them failed. Why? Poor control, odd camera angles, the developer's love affair with 3D polygons were more important than game play, etc. What's old school? Sonic, Mario World, the original Donkey Kong Country, to name a few. Those games relied on the tried and true 2D sprite based game engines and they worked oh so well!

Enter Sucker Punch Productions. These guys have successfully made the platform game transition to 3D without ruining the essence of the platform style game genre. Easy pick up and play control scheme, Top notch character design, varied environments, all the eye candy one could want wrapped up in a very cartoonish cell shaded package.

The distinctive and varied level design is superb, I only wish that there were more than five. Each level contains seven or so sub levels. The game's bosses are not the smartest found in a game of this type. The determined player can dispatch these guys with little effort. The last boss is pretty tough though. Sly Cooper is the kind of game you'll no doubt play again even after completing the game the first time. It is just that could. And it is a game worth repeated play.

Sly Cooper and Thievius Raccoons is designed for one player. It is a game that is not to be missed if you are in any way a fan of platform games.
