Metal Slug - Neo Geo Conversion Project

Hello Everyone,

Well it was a long time coming but I finally got around to doing a Metal Slug conversion. Metal Slug was originally released in both English and Japanese formats for the MVS and home format. Widely available as an MVS cartridge it is fairly easy to get in the Neo Geo Home (NGH) format if you've got $1,000 to $2,000 to burn! Solution? Why a MVS to NGH conversion of course!

For this conversion I used a Samurai Shodown III cartridge. I could have used a Fatal Fury 3, Real Bout, King of Fighters 95/96/97 but since I found the Samurai Shodown III with case for $40 (no manual, bumpy case) that would be snubbed by most folks I figured that this was the one to go with.
This was a straight up conversion. You'll need to make jumper adjustments. I've included the correct settings in this document.

Details:

Remove the V, P, S, M, and C chips from the Sacrifice NGH boards.
Remove the V, P, S, M and C chips from the Metal Slug MVS cartridge. Place them in their corresponding locations on the sacrifice NGH boards. Solder them up nice and clean, take your time. Congratulations, you're almost done.

The Insert and Label

I decided to create a custom US insert for Metal Slug. I used scanned graphics bits from the Neo Geo Pocket Color Metal Slug 1st Mission, Metal Slug 4 NGH (The Evil Madman!) and from the actual game screens itself. Constructing the soldier graphic was interesting as his left arm and hand was partially covered. I found a match inside the Neo Geo Pocket Color manual and was able to basically stitch two images together forming the result that you see on my insert an manual. I did quite a bit of "image-cropping" to get the desired results.

Here are the correct jumper settings, US and Japan label and inserts:
