Seganet ISP Is No More...

Ah crap! I received a message this evening from Seganet that they are no longer going to be a Internet Service Provider and that anyone with a Seganet account will be offered a plan through Earthlink. I've was an Earthlink user and let me tell you the performance was really poor for online games. I switched to Mindspring before Earthlink bought them out and HAD great performance with that outfit until Earthlink took over. The reason I subscribed to SegaNet was due to the superior online experience I was having with Dreamcast games using that service. Mindspring (the Earthlink Version) was lousy with Dreamcast games, the lag was really bad.
Will NFL2K2 wreak without Seganet support? I fear the worse. I'm a very unhappy camper right now as DSL and CABLE options are not available to me and I was really looking forward to playing NFL2K2 on my Dreamcast online this football season.
Yeah, yeah... Sega claims that SegaNet is still alive and well and now supports PC (Ugh!) and consoles but that they no longer will be providing Internet services.
This is quite disturbing as they originally claimed that their ISP was optimized for gaming ---- Dreamcast gaming. Now its open for all. Have we been deceived?!?! Or is this just another
marketing spin to make it appear better than it really is now.
Here is a segment of the original email: "As a current SegaNet member, you can play online console and
PC games on SegaNet and access all the great content and activities you've
come to enjoy on www.sega.net and www.sega.com. Now, gamers can access the
SegaNet network without being required to subscribe to the SegaNet ISP service.
SegaNet is now open to all!"
"However, SegaNet will no longer serve as an ISP and will
not provide dialup Internet access. We want to dedicate our efforts to expanding
our online gaming network, supporting online games, and building the best online
gaming community."
"We've hooked you up with a great ISP, EarthLink, to provide
all your Internet access needs."
Grrrrrrr....
