Online Quitters, Cheats and Goofs

What's up with all of the loser players online these days? I mean, do these individuals have such fragile egos that they simply cannot stand to lose a game? Are they so obsessed with winning that they'll quit out of a game in progress just so they do not have to see final score? Do they believe that this act somehow keeps their winning record intact? It is becoming downright laughable.

I thought that it was bad enough that the goofs that were playing ChuChu Rocket would exit any game when they thought that they might lose or were actually losing a level. At least then the games were pretty quick to play. No real harm done. There was not a lot of time invested with them. Now comes along a truly innovative game for the Dreamcast called NFL 2K1. I have not been so blown away about a game in a very long time. I have played many exiting and challenging games on line since its release. But like all good things related to gaming there are those that are intent in ruining the gaming experience. And this time it is not the government, it is the lamer that dares to call them self a gamer.

Here are some examples of unsportsmanship like activity based on my many hours of playing against way too many goofs out there. And just to let you know, I do not play using the most powerful teams. I tend to stick with the Bills or Cowboys.. I've even been know to pick the Bengals:

  • I elect to kick. My opponent fails to move the ball. It is now 4th and 10. He elects to go for it on his own 15-yard line. I audible out of my punt defense and stop him from getting the 1st down. My opponent hits pause, then quits.
  • I am down by 21 points. I finally figure out a way to stop those quarterback roll out runs and running back sweeps. I tie the game up late in the 4th quarter. My opponent hits pause, then quits.
  • I am up by 7 lousy points in the 1st quarter. I stop my opponent close to my goal line. My opponent hits pause, then quits.
  • My opponent pauses the game after being called for offensive holding. He pauses the game and turns that penalty off.
  • My opponent is out of time outs. He hits pause, changes teams using the controller option, then calls time out using one of my time outs.
  • My opponent constantly zooms the game in and out as I try to kick or throw a pass. He also hits the pause button a lot.
  • 3 on 1. I play against 3 guys at once. They always call the same play on defense. They always take control of 3 of the blitzers. I score practically every time yet they do not change their tactics. They hit pause and leave it there.
  • After every play, my opponent sends profanity via the keyboard as his way of being "cool." Not cool. He shut up after I had him by 14 points. My opponent hits pause, then quits.
  • My opponent brags about being undefeated. I get a score. My opponent hits pause, then quits.
  • Down by 3, my opponent quits after failing to convert a 4th down in the 4th quarter. That's just plain dumb.
  • Goes for 2 points every time. Gets mad because I do not. My opponent hits pause, then quits.
  • My oppenent goes for it on every 4th down. I do not. My opponent hits pause, then quits.
  • I run a ground control offense. I keep the ball out of my opponent's hands for over 4 minutes. My opponent hits pause, then quits.
  • My opponent chooses the RAMS. I choose the BENGALS. At the half I'm up by 10. My opponent hits pause, then quits.
  • I stop a guy from scoring on his 1st drive. My opponent hits pause, then quits. Then he dares to challenge me again as soon as we are back at the lobby. Pitiful.

So, i think it is high time that we publish some simple guidelines for the NFL 2K1 quitters, one play wonders, and the twitchy handed pause & zoom goofs out there.

  • If you challenge an opponent, do the honorable thing and play the game to its logical conclusion. If you do not, you will ALWAYS get beat by good players. You will never learn the game. You will never appreciate the thrill of a hard earned victory. You will always be a loser.
  • Do not change options that can affect the actual play of the game AFTER the game has started. Example: Do not turn off penalties during the game.
  • Do not pause and leave a game in limbo for long periods of time.
  • Do not change the controller options during the game so that you can take control of the other team's time outs. That's just wrong.
  • Don't quit just because you can't score every time you get the ball.
  • If you go for it on 4th down then accept the consequences of that act - good or bad.
  • Stop zooming/pausing a game when the opponent is attempting to kick a field goal. Are you really that bad that you must resort to such childish tactics?
  • Buy a Dreamcast Keyboard. Communication is good. That way if you feel that the game is hopelessly lost by either player then both of you can ask to be "excused" from the game and take the defeat like a real gamer.
  • Being behind in a game is not the end of the world. That makes the game more challenging. Fumbles happen. So do interceptions. It is all just part of the game.
  • If a player scores every time you call a particular play maybe it is time that you chose a different play or even better maybe it is time that you spend more time using NFL 2K1's practice mode.
  • Trash talk can be fun if used properly and with some level of respect to the other player. That does NOT give you the right to use PROFANITY.

It is my hope that Sega and others include in future online game the ability to track quitters. Maybe this will keep this activity from occurring. Hey, maybe the act of quitting should cause the modem to hang up automatically. That in itself could deter some from hitting the quit button so quickly just because things were not going their way. I bet these are the same fools that knock over game boards when things aren't going their way. they are probably the same ones that ran to mommy every time they could not have their way.

Stop wasting our time with your silly antics. Play the game the way it is intended to be played. DO NOT CHALLENGE a player if you have not intention of sticking with the game. If you are too immature to abide by these few, simple rules then I've got two words for you.... LOG OFF.

If you are looking for an honest game be sure to look me up. My SegaNet ID is larryhokie. I'm not the best nor worse player that you'll meet on line. What I will offer is a fair and honest game of online Football.
